Continued positive messages in the news, educating Congress with credible research, and legal counsel and documents stating the intent of the law will help strengthen our voice on Capitol Hill. No one company can reach millions of Americans with the positive virtues of home medical equipment, but together through the Stand Up for Homecare campaign we can make a large impact on legislators and in regulatory agencies. This campaign, combined with the lobbying and advocacy efforts of AAHomecare, State Associations, and HME advocates like you reaching out to your legislators gives our industry a strong collective voice on issues that matter.
The funds you give to maintain this campaign support consumer advocacy groups like United Spinal Association, ITEM Coalition, the National Council on Independent Living, and Paralyzed Veterans of America – organizations that represent many of the patient groups we serve, and are also strong allies on legislative and regulatory priorities. Contributions have also been used to provide funding for direct outreach to consumers on our issues, and have helped expand our network of grassroots advocates by thousands of new supporters. The Campaign also supports engagement with PR firms, Law firms, and Research firms.

HME Audit Key
Audits for home medical equipment hit providers hard in terms of denying or delaying payment for products and services, as well as tying up company resources required to respond to them. AAHomecare and other industry stakeholders are working hard to reduce the audit burden, but we need reliable and representative data that shows the full measure of the problems the current system is causing for providers to help us make the case to CMS and Congress for substantial audit reforms.
The HME Audit Key is a free web-based survey the American Association for Homecare developed in response to a lack of data and information provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on the impact the audit programs are having on HME Suppliers. The HME Audit Key seeks information on your pre- and post-payment audits and appeal claim outcomes under DME MAC, RAC and SMRC reviews. Your company’s individual information will never be shared, and will only be included in the aggregate data.

The American Association for Homecare (AAHomecare) works to strengthen access to care for the millions of Americans who require medical care in their homes. AAHomecare represents healthcare providers, equipment manufacturers, and other organizations in the homecare community. AAHomecare members serve the medical needs of millions of Americans who require oxygen equipment and therapy, mobility assistive technologies, medical supplies, inhalation drug therapy, home infusion, and other home medical equipment, therapies, services, and supplies in the home. Membership reflects a broad cross-section of the homecare community, including providers of all sizes operating approximately 3,000 locations in all 50 states.
The association advocates on behalf of the entire homecare community in legislative and regulatory arenas. On a daily basis, AAHomecare staff and government relations consultants communicate with Members of Congress, key Committees, and Congressional staff as well as various federal agencies, especially the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
AAHomecare also provides information about compliance issues, industry trends and data, forums for education and training, networking opportunities, and consumer information.
The American Association for Homecare strongly encourages members to take an active role in legislative matters by establishing ongoing relationships with their Members of Congress and state legislators and by participating in the AAHomecare PAC.
