LAKE WALES, FL – Southern California-based ResMed made headlines earlier
this month when it filed a complaint against 3B Medical Inc alleging
patent infringement. Tom Thayer, Sr., president of 3B Medical Inc, fired
back last week calling the legal challenge a “tremendous waste of
resources” and expressing confidence that his company would prevail.
“Every
law firm that we have consulted has expressed confidence that the
claims are without merit,” said Thayer. “That said, the lawsuits are
costly. We have set aside the financial resources necessary to fight
this, and have every confidence that we will prevail at the end of the
day…and we think that ResMed’s aggressive litigation speaks volumes to
their insecurity about the future challenge we pose to them.”
3B
is the North American sales arm of BMC Medical. BMC started as a
manufacturer of polysomnography equipment in Asia and maintains a core
focus and competency in sleep diagnostics and sleep therapy.
The
latest legal tussles demonstrate that the stakes are high in the
burgeoning sleep market. Medtrade, held this year from Oct 7-10 in
