Tom Ryan Preps for Battle

April 21, 2014

LAS VEGAS – Powered by Medtrade Radio and sponsored by Emerge Sales, the third season of HME Voice got off to a provocative start with Tom Ryan, president and CEO of the American Association for Homecare, occupying the hot seat in a no-holds-barred discussion. With the AAHomecare Legislative Conference just two weeks away, Ryan talked about the many battles ahead, as well as the necessity for unity now and in the future.

In the 30-minute interview that aired last week, and is now available for listening on the Internet. Tom answered the following questions:
• Is AAHomecare a competitor of VGM?
• How do you define winning?
• What is a resonable expection for small providers moving forward?
• How does AAHomecare respond to criticism that it has not done enough to combat legislative policies?
• If you had to give yourself a grade thus far, what would it be?
• What new initiative is blowing you away?

“We asked Tom really tough questions, and nothing was off limits,” said Mike Sperduti, founder of Emerge Sales and co-host (with Kevin Gaffney, group show director, Medtrade) of HME Voice. “This really was no-holds barred.”

“We’re all in this together,” said Ryan at one point. “I want to continue to work collaboratively with VGM so that we can leverage our strengths in the best possible way. One of VGM’s great strengths is providing direct service to their members…We represent the entire industry, because no one else can. That is why we exist. We believe there is great value to the association, and that’s why we need every HME company to join and support our work. Do I find that we are competition with VGM? No.”
