ATLANTA – Whether they are called member service organizations (MSOs) or group purchasing organizations (GPOs), entities such as The VGM Group and The MED Group are great ways to find help in the sometimes lonely world of business. Enhanced buying power is a familiar benefit, but modern MSOs offer a lot more these days.
“MSOs are critical for all the advantages that drive providers to join in the first place—access to manufacturers, customized insurance, bonding, contracting, and expertise in retail, rehab, and respiratory,” says John Gallagher (pictured, upper left), vice president, Government Relations, The VGM Group (Booth #1927 at Medtrade). “But in today’s climate, it’s the timely access to critical data and information that is the most important reason to belong—market data, audit team access, critical cash flow/leasing options, legislative and regulatory data. To use a sport analogy, you are only as good as the team you choose to play on.”
The MED Group (booth #1431 at Medtrade, scheduled for Oct 20-23, 2014, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta) describes itself as a “group purchasing, business solutions, and network management organization.” The Lubbock, Tex-based organization connects 2,400 members and 120 vendor partners with resources to “improve profit, grow market share, and succeed in today’s business environment.”
It all adds up to a lot of help that can benefit providers in challenging times. “With all of the uncertainty, reimbursement pressures, and obstacles to success in the current DME industry, there are opportunities that exist to grow your business by utilizing medical claims data to identify the high-value physician referral sources that are scripting your product segment in your coverage area,” says Ryan Ball, director, VGM Market Data.
Those who visit the VGM booth during Medtrade will find “education and new business ideas,” says Jill Eckenrod, vice president, Population Health Management, The VGM Group. “VGM staff want to connect with Medtrade attendees and continue the interaction,” she adds, “so we continue to offer value to our members and the industry as a whole.”
